When The Century Report last covered this event on July 26, early reporting put the lost load near 3,000 megawatts and showed ride-through capability already becoming a grid requirement. Emanuel Bernabeu, PJM's top reliability official, described the mismatch plainly: this was a normally cleared fault, and the data centers were simply too sensitive, tripping offline when the grid did not need them to. PJM is now considering standards that would require computational loads to "ride through" brief voltage dips instead of dropping the moment conditions wobble. David Souder, another PJM operations leader, put the timing at the center of it: you need these requirements in place before the load comes on the system, not after. A NERC directive from federal regulators and a December 31 registration deadline for large loads are pushing the same way.

A ligand-free polymer-lipid particle carrying mRNA both entered and activated T cells directly in the body, engaging the growth pathway that promotes expansion while restraining exhaustion, and generated working CAR-T cells in place that cleared pathological fibroblasts in cancer and fibrosis models.
The third is where design intelligence enters the biology. A deep-learning system, DeepSCan, learned the sequence-to-function map of cell-surface display from tens of thousands of measurements, then designed thousands of new surface anchors. Of roughly 120 validated, seven matched or exceeded the best natural anchors in cell-surface-display assays, with performance also tested in a CAR-T killing assay. A model proposing biological parts that matched or beat the natural reference in those assays is what stands out.
The fourth closes the escape hatch. Myeloma evades single-target CAR-T by shedding the targeted marker; a dual-target CAR-iNKT approach paired with engagers held back the escape of marker-negative cells.
Each result is preclinical - mouse and cell-model stage, with regulatory and manufacturing work ahead before any patient sees it. What compresses is the distance between understanding why a therapy fails and building the version that doesn't. When the screen, the delivery, the design, and the escape problem all move in a single week, the latency from biological insight to a buildable intervention is what shrinks - and that latency was the real constraint all along.
The Jobs Apocalypse Didn't Arrive, but the Work Is Changing Underneath

OpenAI says its “frontier” enterprise users consumed 8.3 times as many tokens per employee as the median firm in June, up from 2.6 times in January, and increasingly spending those tokens on agentic coding rather than chat. High token use does not automatically equal productivity, and OpenAI's own chief economist calls measuring the return "frankly difficult." The near-term cost lands on specific people: the graduate facing a higher bar, the worker in a role sliding toward contract status.
